The following Excel spreadsheet represents the latest median age data for countries over 500,000 population. This spreadsheet includes median age estimates from 1950 to 2015 drawn from UN Population Division estimates published in World Population Prospects, the 2015 Revision (published 2015). Data from 2016 to 2050 are projections, drawn from the UN Population Division’s medium fertility variant, also from its 2015 Revision.
Because the UN Population Division only follows present day countries (with their present day boundaries), I have used population data from before the breakup of countries (e.g., the Soviet Union), re-consolidated some states (e.g., Ethiopia prior to 1992), and used sub-national data to find their populations prior to consolidation (e.g., Vietnam). Data for these efforts are from prior versions of the UN Population Division estimates and projections, beginning with its initial effort in 1980.
